D12 of Christmas

I'm currently running Paizo's Shackled City adventure path, and it's been awesome so far. We are only a little over half the way through it after almost a year, so I really have a no-nonsense, as little messing around as possible approach.

Which pretty much leaves no time for a Christmas special adventure. If I had a good one on hand, I might run it any way, but both scripting one up and interrupting the campaign with a one shot is too much to ask. I don't think I've ever seen a module or adventure about Christmas published. That's a shame. I should make a holiday special campaign, start it with a themed Halloween one, put in a Thanksgiving filler, top it off with a Christmas/new years combo.

Hrrrm, could even go further with Valentines day (Charm Arrows), Easter (were-rabbit), and April fools (pink dragons and blink mammoths).

I've got these Mage Knight Clockwork Santa and Frosty the Snowminion figures that I've been dieing to use for something. I'm sure you work a Santa Attack into the adventure, as a random encounter. Now THATS a table I want to see!
"Let's see, I rolled a 62... ok, a band of goblins, led by 3 bugbears, is charging foward from the forest. Behind them, Santa Claus is spinning a steel chain over his head, screaming orders in the goblin tongue..."

Wonder what his treasure type would be? Steal his flying sleigh and bag of holding. If he was on an encounter table, it seems like if kids waited up for him on christmas eve, they would get a roll on the table too. A Catoblepas comes down the chimney! Cookies and milk will not satisfy it's hunger, roll initiative!

Hehehe that would be awesome. Gelatinous cube would also be awesome, with little Billy staring up the chimney, wondering what that sloshing sound is, little knowing that his doom will soon be upon him!

It could be a festive gelatinous cube, shaped like a wreath with marshmallows, bananas and cherries inside.
Hang your high soft boots from the chimney-down-2-levels with care, it's GygaX-mas!

I was just looking at the Monster Manual II to see what the catoblepas looks like in 3rd edition. I had only the haziest recollection of these things when you mentioned it, and for some reason I thought it was some kind of big bug thing. Now your scenario is even more messed up; a giant cow-think dropping out of the chimney would pretty much destroy Christmas. And it has a death ray! A green laser beam of death, fired from its eyes! If I had to guess what that thing could do by looking at it, Green Death Ray wouldn't even make the list. And of course its another one of those "a wizard did it" creatures like the Owlbear.

I read up on it on the old monster manual. Wow. It's eyes caused death. No save, just death. It's neck is so weak, that it only has like a fifteen percent chance of lifting it's head up high enough to even use it, but damn. So in the afore mentioned chimney scenario, probably the only thing that would come down the chimney would be it's nasty looking noggin on that long snaky neck. Ouch.

Aww, I really wish we had done a Christmas one-shot. I don't know about getting a Catoblepas though, that really doesn't sound like the kind of present that I would enjoy.

Should make a Rankin and Bass style christmas show, Crusty the Christmas Catoblepas.
